Re-imagining Democracy 1750-1860

This is a long running research network project, initially developed by Joanna Innes (Oxford University) and Mark Philp (Warwick University), exploring the changing meanings of and practices associated with the term Democracy.  There are four components to its work to date:

Re-imagining Democracy in the Age of Revolutions ed. Innes and Philp (Oxford University Press, 2013) – examining changes in the USA, Britain, France and Ireland 1750-1850.

Re-imagining Democracy in the Mediterranean 1750-1860. A collection of essays edited by Joanna Innes and Mark Philp, (Oxford University Press, 2018).

Re-imagining Democracy in Latin America 1780-1870.  This Project is nearing completion having run from 2017-2022, coordinated by Eduardo Posada Carbo in association with Joanna Innes and Mark Philp and will issue in a third volume published by Oxford University Press, New York, in 2023.

Re-imagining Democracy in Central and Northern Europe 1760-1870. This project is being launched in the autumn of 2022.
