In April 2023 the Project Convenors (Joanna Innes and Mark Philp) visited Switzerland to talk to Swiss historians about the project and about how they see the language of democracy and associated practices changing in the later 18th and early 19th Century.

On May 4 and 5 2023 the Project held a workshop in Warwick University on Germany and the continuing relevance of the work undertaken on the history of concepts in relation to Democracy by the Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe – a project begun over fifty years ago.

On 20-21 June 2023, Joanna Innes attended a conference in Finland around the question of representation in the region.

Events in the next 12 months will include a reading group across the first two academic terms in Oxford and a parallel seminar series in Oxford. A workshop in Amsterdam in January 2024, and a visit to Vienna and Budapeste in the spring/early summer of 2024. If you are interested in being involved please contact
